Primary Employer Impact
Primary employers are the economic engine of the local economy. Because of their higher wages (The average wage of a primary job in Longmont is about $80,000) they support the secondary jobs that provide the goods and services we need locally. How? By providing the direct income we use to buy the necessities of life (e.g. food, shelter, transportation) and the discretionary income to buy the goods and services we want (electronics, haircuts, clothes, cleaners, art, sporting goods, etc.). This means that primary wages support an additional two non-primary jobs in the community.
The points on the sidebar to the right reflect some of the direct impact of primary wages. The economic impact figure represents that portion of wages that are paid to local residents who hold jobs in Longmont.
