Prior to joining the Economic Council Jessica Erickson was the Senior Industry Development Manager for the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade focusing on retention, expansion and recruitment of businesses specializing in Advanced Manufacturing, Infrastructure Engineering, Electronics, Financial Services, and Technology & Information.

Prior to joining OEDIT, Jessica served as the Manager of Business Retention & Expansion and Interim Director of Economic Development for the City of Thornton Office of Economic Development. There she focused on the retention and expansion of the city’s existing primary employer base and spearheaded redevelopment efforts in a 600-acre Urban Renewal Area. Prior to the City of Thornton, Jessica worked in the City & County of Broomfield as the President & CEO of the Broomfield Economic Development Corporation. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Economic Development Council of Colorado since 2008 and currently serves on the Board of Colorado Lending Source.

Jessica received a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. She is also a graduate of the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute and is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD).


COO & Vice President 
Wendi Nafziger is a Certified Economic Developer (CED) that has worked in the development field for 35 plus years. Wendi graduated from Skyline High School in Longmont and participated in the Career Development Center’s Business Program throughout high school. She completed her basic economic development course in 1995. Wendi joined the Longmont Area Economic Council in 1982 as administrative assistant and was promoted to Vice President in 1995. She was the 2001 president of the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame, is a member and treasurer of the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary, a former board member and Treasurer of Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, a former board member and treasurer of the Economic Development Council of Colorado and a member of the International Economic Development Council.

In 1997 Wendi was recognized as Business Partner of the Year by the St. Vrain Valley School District, was given the 2001 Affiliate of the Year by the Longmont Association of Realtors, and was Citizen of the Year in 2005. In 2005 Wendi was presented with the "Women of Distinction Award" by the Girl Scouts; and in 2009 she received the "LeMoyne Monson 4 Way Test Award" from Twin Peaks Rotary. Most recently she was awarded "Economic Development Achievement Award" by the Economic Development Council of Colorado.


Director of Strategy & Collaboration

Morgan Smith is a recent graduate from the University of Denver, where he obtained a BA in Economics and BA in Public Policy. He was the Student Body President and the founder of the state’s largest student-run think tank that engages young people at a local level, Roosevelt @ DU. He’s a Boettcher Scholar and an Eagle Scout. Morgan also serves as a delegate of the Youth Congress for Sustainable Americas, an international network of young change-makers who lead local transformative action for sustainability across the Americas. He is always on the hunt for a good cup of coffee, remote camping locations, and a great non-fiction read.



Director of Small Business & Entrepreneurial Development

Sergio was born in Santa Barbara, California and moved to Boulder in 1996, where he grew up and later graduated from Alexander Dawson School. He attended the University of Richmond where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in international business degree. After college, Sergio joined CapTech as a consultant and worked on several IT projects at Fortune 500 companies such as Bank of America, Navy Federal Credit Union, and Marriott. He moved to Longmont in 2016 to be closer to family and to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. On his free time, he enjoys traveling (both domestic and abroad), hiking, checking out new breweries, and snowboarding.
